Las Vegas 2007

Hank Smith (29-18) of Torrance California defeated Ben Leong (29-19) of Gaithersburg Maryland four games to two in the 2007 Worlds  championship series.

Semi-finals

Hank Smith defeated Vic Horvath (23-21) four games to none in one semi-final. 

Ben Leong defeated Bruce Layton four games to two in the other semi-final.

 

Quarter-finals

Hank Smith defeated Errol Dennis (24-18) in the quarterfinals.

Ben Leong defeated Don Leong (29-21) in the quarter-finals.

Vic Horvath defeated Willy Dominguez (21-18) in the quarter-finals.

Bruce Layton defeated Mike Parker (21-15) in the quarter-finals.

 

Shootouts

Hank Smith defeated Pete Nelson in one shootout final to advance to the quarter-finals.

Final Papal Room Selector Order

At last year's worlds we had seven drafting groups.  In the past, due to travel difficulties, as low as the 10-11 on the list was asked to select a division.  The selector must be ready to draft at 10 PM Thursday Jan 11, 2007.  No substitutes or proxies.

Highest seeded selector gets the first pick in the last round.  The selector may choose a bye (dsim) or player at any point.  Only one bye may be selected per selector.  The draft is serpentine.

Chicago

Mike Meszaros of Billings Montana defeated Don Leong of Laurel Maryland four games to three in the finals of the Jasper Regional.  Meszaros defeated Ben Leong three games to two in one semi-final.  Don Leong defeated Ben Swoboda three games to none in the other semi-final.

Meszaros and Swoboda won their divisions.  Swoboda also won the third place bracket.

Secaucus

Mike Kman of Harrisburg Pennsylvania defeated Mike Cohen three games to one in the East Regional .  Eric Wayne won the region and will represent the East Region in the Papal Room.

Los Angeles

Randy Davidson (21-12) of a Habra California defeated Peter Waterstreet (19-15) of San Jose California four games to one in the world series in the finals of the West Region.  Davidson won an unprecedented four tournaments in the region including the regional. 

Davidson defeated Mark Van Klaveren three games to one in the semi-finals.   Waterstreet defeated Stan Suderman three games to two in the other semi-final.  Van Klaveren (18-6) and Suderman (16-8) won their divisions

Orlando

Ed Killmer (22-12) of Tampa Florida defeated Sal Caridi (19-15) four games to two in the finals of the South Regional.  Caridi wins the South Region points  championship and locks up a place in the Papal Room in the worlds in Las Vegas.

Killmer defeated Mark Delpopolo three games to one in one semi-final.  Caridi defeated Larry Grogan three games to one in the other semi-final.

Moving Points

You may move points for one tournament to any other region.  You must notify the Star Tournaments statistician to move any points between regions no later than the Monday before earliest of the two regional tournaments that are affected.

Bruce Layton new board member

The board of directors is pleased to announce that Bruce Layton has been named to the board or directors of Star Tournaments.  Bruce will be an at large member of the board.   

Due to family commitments Will Roberts has resigned from the board or directors.  We all appreciate the contributions that Will has made to Star Tournaments.

In addition to his role as an board member, Eric Wayne will take over the responsibilities of East region coordinator.

Additionally the board is pleased to announce that Bill Fenlon has been named Central Region coordinator and Willy Dominguez has been named South Region coordinator.  Bill and Willy have been instrumental in organizing their respective regions.

Ed Daley (21-12) of Las Vegas Nevada defeated Stan Roberts (18-17) of San Pedro California four games to two in the world series.  Daley, last years Worlds runner-up, now has three lifetime Star Tournaments wins.

Daley defeated division winner Dan Martin three games to none in the semi-finals.  Roberts defeated division winner Peter Waterstreet in the other semi-final.

Port St. Lucie

Sal Caridi (22-11) of Ormand Beach Florida defeated Scott Ferron (18-16) four games to one in the world series.   Caridi now has seven lifetime Star Tournament wins.

Caridi defeated Kyle and Craig Schneider in the one semi-final three games to one.  Ferron defeated Ed Killmer three games to two in the other semi-final.

Ben Leong (20-12)) of Gaithersburg Maryland defeated Gene Abood (22-13) of  South Plainfield New Jersey  four games to three in the world series.  Leong has now has 15 lifetime Star Tournaments wins, the most of any player,

Bryan Lewis of Erie, PA (22-11) defeated Dave Hegg 4 games to 2 in the Finals.  Lewis now has four lifetime Star Tournaments wins.

Bryan defeated "High" division winner Don Leong in 5 games in one semi and Dave won his division and defeated Paul Brownlee in 3 games in the other semi.

Paul defeated Vic Horvath in a shootout to advance to the semi's.

In the 3rd-place bracket Don defeated Paul in 3 games.

Rob Woodard and Don Shults finished t-5th.

Mark Giddings (24-11) of Albany New York defeated Bruce Layton (21-14) Albany New York  four games to three in the world series.   Giddings now has five lifetime Star Tournaments wins.

Pete Nelson (22-11) of Renton Washington defeated Lance Tucker (19-14) of Buckley Washington four games to two in the world series.  Nelson now has 11 lifetime Star Tournaments wins.  Recap.

Steve Baldeaux (25-10) of La Mesa California defeated Michel Gilbert (23-13) of Quebec City, Quebec four games to three in the world series.  Baldeaux now has two lifetime Star Tournaments wins.

John Perez (22-13) of Revere Massachusetts defeated Jim Galloway (19-17) of Wake Forrest North Carolina four games to three in the world series.  Perez now has six Star Tournaments wins.

Perez defeated Mark Delpopolo three games to one in the semi-finals.  Galloway defeated Errol Dennis three games to two in the other semi-final.

Indianapolis

Max Barker (20-15) of Marion, Indiana defeated Mark Delpopolo (21-14) of Atlanta, Georgia in 8 games in the World Series.  Barker won his first Star Tournament while playing in his first tournament.
 
Max won his division and defeated the team of Bill Fenlon and Dave Johnson in one Semi in 5 games and Mark won his division and defeated Dave Hegg in 5 games in the other semi.
 
In the 3rd-place bracket the team of Bill Fenlon and Dave Johnson defeated Vince Velten with Dave Hegg and Mike Parker finishing tied for 5th.
 
There were 19 players and two divisions.

Los Angeles

Randy Davidson (22-13) of La Habra California defeated Tom Anderson (20-15) of Moreno Valley California four games to two in the world series.  Davidson now has six lifetime tournament wins.  Davidson drafted 10th and took Wagner and Rivera.

Davidson defeated his brother Steve three games to two in the semi-finals.  Anderson defeated Bill Katona three games to two in the other semi-final.

Steve Davidson won his division and Anderson and Randy Davidson tied for first in their division.

Newark

Don Leong (22-9) of Laurel, Maryland beat his brother Ben Leong (19-13),  also of Laurel, Maryland in 4 tightly contested games to win the 1st Star Tournament World Series of 2006 in North East, Maryland.   Don Leong now has eight lifetime tournament wins.
 
Ben and Don won their respetive tables.  We had 14 participants and one dummy for 8 at each table.  The dummy rolled a 1 for draft position and took A. Rodriguez at both tables.  Don won the die roll, chose to go 5th and took Clemens and Drew with his first two picks.  Ben rolled a 1, drafted 7th and took Bay and Jeter with his first two picks. 
 
Don defeated John McGaha of Middletown, Delaware, who was attending his first Star Tournament and tied Ben with a 16-8 record at Table B, three games to 0 in the semi finals.  John has been playing Strat-O-Matic for over 20 years. 
 
Ben defeated Mike Kman of Enola, Pennsylvania 3 games to 1 in the other semi-final match.
